Our Philosophy
Created by educators, families and children who attend Babyccino.
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which we stand today, the Cadigal People and Gameygal People of the Eora Nation, and pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging. We recognise the ongoing connection that Indigenous peoples have to the land and the importance of their cultural heritage to the community.
Here at babyccino we like to place a strong emphasis on the influence engagement with the community has on our children’s learning, growth and wellbeing. High community engagement increases children’s interest in the world around them in addition to imbedding the importance of collaborative learning. Incorporating members of the community in addition to creating strong relationships with the community contribute to children’s ‘belonging, being and becoming’.
Relationships with children
We believe that all children are capable, resourceful and unique individuals who are entitled to a quality education and care. Positive relationships and engaging in intentional teaching enable learning to occur in social contexts. Secure and reciprocal relationships provide our children with a secure base for exploration and learning, our educators promote interaction and conversations through daily practices as we believe this is imperative to a child’s learning.
Sense of wellbeing
Current research shows that a child’s development of their understanding of the world around them is developed in their earliest years. It is important to us that all children feel a sense of wellbeing in order to reach their full potential. Discussing emotions and responses to certain events to support our children’s understanding of emotional regulation and self control is important in maintaining a child’s sense of wellbeing at babyccino.
Learning environments
We believe diverse learning environments enable Babyccino to support all aspects of children’s learning and invite conversation between child, educator, family and broader community. The use of the combination of indoor and outdoor play promotes opportunity for shared thinking and collaborative learning. Our learning spaces in our classrooms promotes interaction, interest and spontaneity, along with both outdoor areas inviting discovery, exploration and connecting with nature. As part of ongoing learning we use the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) to guide the educators in their curriculum decision making in order to plan, implement and evaluate children’s learnings and development. This is done through Stimulating learning opportunities as well as spontaneous and formalised lessons.
Sustainability
The younger generations represent the forefront of future generations when it comes to our environment and sustainability, therefore, as educators it is important to teach the children the significance in caring for and protecting their environment. We promote sustainable practices everyday, working together with our educators, children and families to show appreciation for our environment.
Programming and documentation
Babyccino uses an app called Kinderm8 that is the basis of majority of our programming and documentation. Weekly newsfeeds are processed in addition to monthly newsletters displayed to parents about what the children have learned and achieved for that month. Additionally, each child receives a monthly observation which assists educators look at the interactions with and between the children, in addition to noting important stages of development milestones and learning. This enables educators to note strengths and improvements of each child, assisting Babyccino in regularly making improvements in our curriculum according to children’s developmental stages. Daily journals on the app are daily summaries of what your child achieved in their day. Everything from their group learning activities, intentional teachings, play, birthdays, meal times and development milestones. Learning stories are a type of group observation that tells a story about what an educator sees, knows and interprets. This includes contributions from children, family and community, providing an informative approach of the experience.
Partnerships with community and families
As educators we endeavour to establish a safe and attentive environment, through the building of secure, respectful, responsive and reciprocal partnerships with the children, their families and the wider community. Babyccino strives to regularly and continuously engaging an participating with the local community. We believe that as educators, we act as social advocates for our children and believe it is our role to educate the broader community in understanding the importance of early childhood, in addition to teaching the children the importance of collaborating and listening to those in our community and the role they play.
We believe that families are children’s first and most influential teachers. Partnership are based on the foundation of understanding each other’s expectations and attitudes and build on the strengths of each other’s knowledge. We trust each other by communicating freely and respectfully with each other to engage in shared decision making. ‘Every child deserves a champion- an adult who will never give upon them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be’ – Rita Pierson Culturally competent
Cultural Responsiveness
We believe the promotion, support and resect of culture connects children and families within our local communities. Babyccino prides itself of having such multicultural families and are proud to be able to equip all children to embrace diversity.
