Our Curriculum

Hi I’m Bay, Babyccino’s Educational Leader.

My role at Babyccino is to work collaboratively with our team of educators, children and families to create an educational program that enhances each child’s learning and development.

Our planned and reflective approach to implementing this program for each child is implemented daily through our monthly curriculum. Each month a new curriculum is written extending each child’s learning and development from the previous month, in addition to listening to children’s voices and interests. We are active participants in the community regularly visiting local small businesses, the beautiful Brighton beach, as well as creating relationship with community members and elders.

Early childhood educators observe, interact and listen to each child, building an understanding of their competencies and capabilities, and actively plan to extend and challenge their knowledge. As capable and confident, the child actively negotiates the direction of the curriculum. Our environments facilitate individual, small and whole group inquiry through a play based mode of learning.

Through regular mentoring and training our educators regularly critically reflect on theorists work and how we can further enhance our practice from such learnings. Additionally, we are lucky to work with Uncle Bob who has provided cultural responsiveness training to our educators, and regular in depth incursions with the Babyccino children to bring them closer to indigenous practices specific to our country.

Although we follow an emergent curriculum, we implement many principles following Maria Montessori, combining a Montessori approach to our learning.

“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences”

— Maria Montessori
